* Meridia – is a brand name for a common diet pill manufactured by Knoll Pharmaceutical Company. Generically it is known as Sibutramine. Chemically, (sibutramide hydrochloride monohydrate) is a stimulant similar to an amphetamine. Be advised, Sibutramine is also classified as a controlled substance. This drug is related to phentermine (one of the drugs in the Fen-Phen combination). It is still available by itself, though it is typically only prescribed for people who are at medical risk because of their weight, not for cosmetic purposes. Side effects include: increased appetite, nausea, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, menstrual cramps/pain and rare thoughts of suicide.
