Review
Summary |
Jenny Craig is support based diet program created in the same vein as other programs on the market; geared at women. It was founded by Jenny and Sid Craig, who created this plan to be a “comprehensive program that, through sound nutrition and simple activity” would help dieters achieve weight loss.
These claims mirror the ones made by other programs and specifically other support based plans, in terms of achievable weight loss and fitness. However, we will thoroughly review this diet plan to see if it can deliver on its promise of creating sustainable weight loss.

 | Concept |
|
As mentioned earlier, this is a support based program, which can be accessed free of charge through its website, however, you must pay for both the plan and the food used in the plan. The plan offers a variety of membership levels, all offered at different rates, starting at about $6 per week. They all offer a weekly one-on-one counseling sessions, as well as personalized food plans, menus, motivational plans, personalized activity plans, weight loss tools and manuals.
The plan is available to dieters in two formats. You can attend sessions at one of their 550 weight loss centers in the US, or you can use the at home format, in which a consultant calls to map out your weight loss plan and for your weekly on-on-one counseling sessions. Also available is a 24/7 online chat bulletin board for members to support each other.
The membership is a monthly revolving fee, which does not include the food that they suggest you buy. The food may run you from $11-$15 per day. It is a low calorie and low fat diet; calorie intake ranges from 1,000 to 2,300 per day depending upon starting weight and weight loss goals. The food plan provides breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks.

 | Diet Lifestyle |
|
The Jenny Craig diet plan is nothing new in terms of nutrition or dieting; utilizing a low calorie, low fat and portion control model. This is the same model women have been using for decades. It is similar in that respect to other similar plans on the market; just having added some new bells and whistles, in terms of high tech access via the internet. We were glad to see that Jenny Craig does focus a lot on having members increase their level of exercise.
This plan might be best suited for dieters who require monitoring and who want to buy prepared and prepackaged food. This is not for the faint of heart in terms of expense; between the membership fee and the food it can turn into a pricey endeavored.

 | Final Thoughts |
|
Jenny Craig uses the basic tried and true low fat, low calorie, portion control format of dieting; while adding one-on-one counseling, online support and their prepackaged food. They strongly suggest you purchase their food to control your calorie and fat intake. In general, we believe this plan would be a good choice for dieters looking for a support based membership dieting system. However, it does not offer anything new or innovative to the weight loss market.
Research suggests that the combination of healthy eating and a good exercise program can help create sustainable weight loss. However, in our opinion, sometimes holistic supplementation can help with this process. We have seen some weight loss formulas achieve good results when using a good quality appetite suppressant, such as Hoodia and a modern metabolism booster like Bitter Orange Extract. These type of supplements can support any diet plan you may choose.
