Review
Summary |
In addition to being a Certified Clinical Nutritionist and Certified Fitness trainer, Jay Robb also has over 20 years of experience in helping people to “lose weight and keep it off”. His columns appear regularly in magazines like Natural Bodybuilding, and he is often consulted by other fitness professionals, such as the former strength coach for the Green Bay Packers.
Fruit Flush Detox is Robb’s fourth and latest book, and has already received national attention in such publications as Oprah’s O Magazine, and First for Women. Considering that it promises to deliver weight loss in just three days, it is easy to see why. However, it is difficult to determine whether Robb’s plan offers a long-term solution, or whether dieters will soon find themselves back where they started.

 | Concept |
|
Fruit Flush Detox is a slim, 48-page volume that promises dieters noticeable results in just three days. Like many “detox” plans, it requires some degree of fasting.
On day one, dieters consume a six-ounce glass of water mixed with Robb’s own specially designed protein powder every two hours until a 6pm dinner consisting of a raw vegetable salad with lean chicken breast or egg whites. The salad may be dressed in olive oil or flax seed oil and lemon juice. On days two and three, dieters consume fresh fruit every two hours from 8am to 6pm, then enjoy the same salad for dinner, accompanied by a protein drink.
Dieters are strongly urged not to exercise while on this diet, save maybe 20 minutes of walking. According to Robb, those who do choose to exercise actually gained weight during the three days.

 | Design |
|
Robb promises that those who follow his Fruit Flush plan can expect to lose nine pounds in just three days. This makes it the perfect plan for those looking to lose weight before a vacation or special event. He also claims that this plan provides an ideal way to kick-start a new exercise program, and can help to cure lethargy, bloating, and general feelings of toxicity.
Calorie reduction is obviously partly responsible for any weight lost on this diet, but Robb argues that it also helps to flush out excess sodium, which also releases any excess water that may add to an unpleasant bloated feeling. The potassium in the fruit is also intended to cleanse the body of “toxins”.

 | Diet Lifestyle |
|
This plan is likely to appeal to those who want to lose weight quickly for a wedding, reunion, or other special event. It may also be particularly appealing to those who are trying to turn over a new leaf after the gluttonous holiday season. Although the diet itself lasts only three days, it is followed by a month-long maintenance period, presumably to keep dieters from gaining all the weight back.
The primary selling point of Fruit Flush Detox is probably its brevity. While many of us have a hard time sticking to diets for the short term, most of us probably feel that we could stay on track for just three days. However, as mentioned above, the odds are high that dieters would find themselves back where they started after a couple of weeks.

 | Final Thoughts |
|
As attractive as it sounds to lose nearly ten pounds in just three days, it is unlikely that the Fruit Flush Detox plan offers a long-term solution for weight loss. As most dieters know, in order to loose weight, one must consistently burn more calories than they take in. While this can be quite challenging on a day-to-day level, certain supplements can help.
In order to control their daily intake, consumers may want to look for a supplement that contains the herb hoodia, which has been shown to suppress the appetite, helping them to keep cravings in check and make smart decisions at mealtimes. In addition, the herb bitter orange has been shown to boost the metabolism, which increases calorie burning day after day.
