Acne Diet
Review Summary
The Acne Diet is an advertised way to reduce facial breakouts through eating the right foods. The diet is not scientifically based and contains no clinical research to support the theories. It’s more of a compilation of people’s personal experience with foods and acne. The correlation is loosely based and may not provide sound advice.

Each person experiences different types of acne and in varying degrees of severity. Some people may never have an acne problem while others constantly battle facial outbreaks. There are many theories that certain foods will make acne occur, though many dermatologists do not support this thought process. We will take a closer look below.

Concept
The Acne Diet is mainly centered on foods which should be avoided or restricted in order to decrease breakouts. This diet consists of eating less whole grains, caffeine, sugar, dairy and even salmon. It also suggests avoiding foods which are high on the glycemic food index, like bread, cake and soda. Suggested foods which may clear up acne are citrus fruits and red meat. Also, foods that contain a high amount of zinc are encouraged to be consumed regularly.

Diet Lifestyle
This diet has not been proven to have an effect on acne. As mentioned, the program is based on the personal experiences of various people. There have been no studies conducted to support their claims. These individuals may have found success, but there could have been a number of alternative reasons which were not considered which have led to those acne results.

We feel, this diet does eliminate entire food groups which would not enable a well-balanced diet to be consumed. It’s important to maintain a healthy diet in order to ensure that essential vitamins and minerals are daily ingested. This is an important factor in establishing better and proper health conditions.

Suggested Foods to Avoid to Decrease Outbreaks
• Salmon
• Dairy
• Whole Grains
• Foods Containing Caffeine
• Chocolate
• Sugary Foods
• Food High on the Glycemic Index

Suggested Foods to Consume to Decrease Outbreaks
• Citrus Fruits
• Red Meat
• Foods containing high levels of Zinc

Positives
• Offers a New Method to Avoid Acne
• Suggests foods to avoid while also offering foods to aid in the process

Negatives
• Research does not support these theories
• Plan eliminates entire food groups
• Not a proven method for weight loss

Final Thoughts
The Acne Diet is entirely based on isolated incidents of various individuals; however following some of the suggestions may lower acne occurrences for some. While none of these theories have been proven, there are many people who believe chocolate and sugar cause acne. Restricting ingestion of foods containing these two components may decrease acne to a degree.

Consulting a dermatologist may be beneficial if constantly suffering from outbreaks. Since they are trained professionals regarding this issue, they may be able to suggest proven techniques in eliminating acne. As for weight loss, a healthy diet is always recommended in combination with a proper appetite suppressant.
